Les Dames learn Crowley’s event schedule

The first meeting of the new club year for Les Dames Acadienne was held on Wednesday, Sept. 10, in the conference room of Crowley City Hall.

President Betty Miller called the meeting to order at 1 p.m., after which Secretary Bonnie Gaspard led the club in prayer and read the minutes of the last meeting.

Guest speakers were Charlotte Jeffers, Allison Hoffpauir and Mayor Greg Jones. They discussed the events scheduled to occur in Crowley in the coming year, as well as September’s being National Rice Month.

Treasurer Cynthia Kratzer reported on the club’s finances, and it was agreed that the group would collect donations for the Miles Perret Cancer Center once more before forwarding the money to the organization.

In addition to the above-named officers, Willie Mae Dailey will serve as vice president for the 2014-15 club year.

Lucille Chisholm reported that she is still collecting recipes for the new cookbook.

The club agreed to continue collecting donations for the Heart Fund, as well as to continue distributing lap blankets to new residents of area nursing homes at Christmas.

Following the distribution of Secret Sister gifts, the club members engaged in a round of Show-and-Tell, and a drawing for the door prize was won by Helen LeBlanc.

Members present enjoyed a lovely meeting served by committee persons Miller and Lois Richard.

The next meeting of Les Dames Acadienne will be held at the Germanfest Museum on Oct. 8.
