Roberts Cove’s St. Leo Sodality of Mary celebrates 70 years

Twenty young ladies attended the first scheduled meeting and formed the charter membership in 1943 when the St. Leo Sodality of Mary was established under the patronage of Our Lady of Peace.

Four of those charter members, Dorothy Leger, Sister Margaret Ohlenforst, M.H.S., Mathilda T. Johnson and Henrietta Didier participated in the Sodality’s 70th anniversary celebration Sunday, Oct. 20.

Rev. Cosmos Schneider, SVD, was the pastor of Saint Leo IV Roman Catholic Church 70 years ago, and he became the first chaplain of Saint Leo Sodality of Mary. St. Leo IV Church’s pastor, Father Paul Broussard serves as the current chaplain.

Sodality moderator is Charlene O. Reynolds.

The celebration of 70 years of service began Sunday with Holy Mass at 9 a.m. followed by a program and covered dish luncheon in the Saint Leo Parish Hall.

Sodalists, past and present, enjoyed visiting, reminiscing, and viewing displays of photographs and historical documents.
