Roys celebrate 60 years

Rainy weather moved the party indoors but did not dampen the spirits of family and friends celebrating the 60th anniversary of Effie and Lee Perry Roy on Saturday, Aug. 30.

Effie is the daughter of Lucy “Mama BeBe” and Maurice Martin. Lee Perry is the son of Laurice “Honey” Merritt and Louis Roy.

The Roys were married at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Lake Arthur on Aug. 28, 1954.

Effie kept house and raised the couple’s children while Lee Perry, now retired, worked as a warehouseman at G&H Seed and Nolan J. Guillot and also as a bus driver.

Lifelong residents of Crowley, Lee Perry was active in the Knights of Columbus, and both he and Effie were active in the Woodmen of the World.

The celebration for the couple, initially planned as a neighborhood block party, was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in South Crowley beginning at 4 p.m.

Approximately 100 guests were on hand for the event, with out-of-town guests traveling from Texas and all across Louisiana.

The Roys have six children: Debra Lacombe and her husband Shelton of Iota, Christine Duhon of Crowley, Denise Bearb and her husband Larry of Crowley, Annette Ritter of Anahuax, Texas, Savanna Cashi and her husband Mark of LaPorte, Texas, and Keith Roy and his wife Ann of Egan.

They are the grandparents of Jeff Lacombe and his wife Julie of Houston, Texas, Jessica Menard and her husband Kirk of Jennings, Karen Kramer and her partner Patrick Cooper of LaPorte, Kaye Lacombe and her partner Bethany Crochet of Jennings, Nicole Chance of Conroe, Texas, Jeremy Ward of Orange, Texas, Blake Bearb and his wife Megan of Rayne, Shawn Beard and his wife Darlene of Crowley, Damon Ritter and his wife Heather of Covington, Amada Ritter of Austin, Texas, Emily Cashi of LaPorte, Brittany Cashi of Beaumont, Texas, Justin Roy and his fiancée Courtney Conrad of Jennings and Judy and Katlyn Roy of Egan.

They are proud to be the great-grandparents of Austin, Audrey, Abigail and Ayden Lacombe of Houston; Aimee’ Gary, Mark Kramer and Michael Kramer of LaPorte; Ethan Menard of Jennings; Devlyn Chance of Conroe; McKinlee Bearb of Rayne; and Carter and Brice Roy of Jennings, with two new little ones expected in December.
