Sorority sisters celebrate chapter birthday

Members of Laureate Mu chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the Lafayette home of Connie Jaubert on Oct. 6 for their regular monthly meeting and to celebrate their chapter birthday.
Upon arrival the group enjoyed a bag lunch brought by each member for the occasion. Following the opening ritual and Pledge of Allegiance, President Nancy Tislow began the business portion of the meeting. Regarding correspondence from International, she stated that she had received a certificate from International indicating that the chapter had been recognized as a three-star chapter for the 2014-15 year. She also acknowledged receipt of the Lynn Terry book, “The Stars Shine Through,” signed by the members of the International staff. Chapter members signed the book to present to the family of recently deceased member Jean Hanks, whose gentle presence the chapter will miss.
Gloria Stutes, service chairman, collected paper towels for Miss Helen’s Soup Kitchen and asked members to bring spray bleach cleaner to the next meeting, which will be held at the home of Phyllis Triggs.
The cultural chairman, Connie Jaubert, reminded members of the Oct. 7 performance of HoneyHoney at the Grand Opera House. Plans were made to visit Vermilionville in Lafayette for the next cultural outing on Nov. 6. Members also drew names for new secret sisters.
Following the business portion of the meeting, the hostess introduced her program, “Toys, Games and Puzzles” by distributing word and Sudoku puzzles to challenge members’ mental skills. Then she passed around various toys for members to handle. To conclude the program, the group had a great time playing a game called “Left, Right, Center.”
Secret sisters were revealed and gifts were exchanged.
The hostess served birthday cake to those present, including Glenda Atkinson, Shirley Griffin, Brenella Joubert, Elsie Rowell, Stutes, Tislow and Triggs.
