Three-Ten Club hears of Crusades, donates to local tutoring program

Members of the Three-Ten Club met on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Crowley home of Carolyn Barousse, with Isabella delaHoussaye and Kay Frugé serving as co-hostesses.

The meeting was led by President Sandy Melancon, and the group was first introduced to Audrey Spencer, director of the Empowering the Community for Excellence Tutoring Program. The members of the club presented a monetary donation to Spencer, and Spencer provided them with an overview of the program beginning with its inception. She also invited them to visit the facility and participate in its programs.

Following Spencer’s presentation, Dr. Cason delaHoussaye, guest speaker, discussed the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition. Dr. delaHoussaye imparted about 1000 years of history regarding those events and explained their relation to current world events. Following his talk, he called for questions from the group and a lively conversation followed.

Included in the business portion of the meeting was the introduction of the club’s newest member, Catherine Hodges, who was then inducted by Gretchen Ohlenforst.

The “Getting to Know You” speakers for the meeting were Letza Fogleman, Georgie Petitjean and Betty Faulk.

The club’s November meeting will be held on Tuesday the 18th, at the home of Alice Whiting.

Following adjournment of the meeting, the club members enjoyed refreshments and social time.

In addition to those already mentioned, members in attendance included Muff Bier, Bobbie delaHoussaye, Jackie Fogleman, Sissy Gall, Mary Beth Geesey, Suzanne Gray, Flo Jones, Brucie Landry, Patty Lawrence, Louise Morrow, Peggy Sandidge, Esther Trahan, M’elise Trahan, Valerie Trahan and Helen Zaunbrecher.

Associate members in attendance were Sarah Bercier, Florette Bergeron, Barbara Geesey and Barbara Scanlan.
