May is the month for the annual “outing” enjoyed by members of Volunteers for Family and Community. Members from Night Club (Crowley) and Roberts Cove Club took a road trip with their first stop at the new Bayou Rum Distillery in Lacassine. Afterwards they enjoyed lunch at the Regatta Restaurant in Lake Arthur, followed by a tour of L’Banca Albergo Hotel and ending up with sweet tastes from Sugar Chic Cake shop. On hand for the trip were, standing from left, Anna Margaret Zaunbrecher, Rita Benoit, Anna Marie Hebert, Martha Pierret, Head Distiller and Tour Guide Jeff Murphy, Mary Ann Sagrera, Martha Grantham, Letha Vincent, Betty Miller, Dot Leger, Christine Hornsby, Josie Thevis and Rosie Trahan. Kneeling in front is Leiniel Vicente, master blender for the distillery. Bayou Rum is handmade from Louisiana sugar cane in the largest privately-owned rum distillery in the United States.
