Louisiana Dream Teachers to Hold Annual Symposium
Baton Rouge ―June 25, 2013―Louisiana Dream Teachers is holding their seventh annual
Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Symposium and Celebration on Friday, July 12, 2013, at the
Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Registration is open to the public at
The morning of the symposium, a keynote luncheon will be hosted by Dream Teachers
that will recognize Louisiana Teacher of the Year alumni and feature New York Times bestselling
author and founder of the Ron Clark Academies, Ron Clark. The keynote will begin at 10:30
a.m. and will include a book signing and lunch. Throughout the afternoon, professional
development workshops, led by some of Louisiana’s leading educators, will take place. These
workshops will focus on the Common Core State Standards and will feature Jacques Rodrigue,
son of famed Louisiana artist George Rodrigue and head of the George Rodrigue Foundation of
the Arts. Rodrigue’s free workshop will focus on integrating arts into school curriculums in order
to promote education reform and raise student achievement. The symposium will be brought to a
close that evening with an awards ceremony and dinner honoring our state’s top educators. The
2014 Teacher, Principal and Superintendent of the Year will also be announced.
