ND netters bounce Jennings
RAYNE – Notre Dame’s boys’ tennis team improved to 3-0 Thursday with an 8-2 win over the Jennings Bulldogs.
In singles action, Brett Boulet dropped an 8-0 decision to Jeremiah Capdeville.
The Pios bounced back with victories at the second and third courts, with Nelson Ambeau defeating Casey Miller 8-5, and Greg Gossen besting Brett Alcock 8-3.
Defending regional doubles champions Ryan Benson and Joe Schmid defeated Capdeville and Miller at No. 1 doubles, 8-5. Charlie Mayeux and Max John captured the second court with an 8-1 win over Alcock and David Hollier. At No. 3, Will Fruge’ and John Rothermel defeated Brance Baca-White and Logan Matte 8-3.
The lone loss for the Pios in doubles was at the fourth court, where Paul Guinn and Steven Dupuis fell to Nick Lasher and Cameron Pollard, 9-7.
Kegan Leprete and Robert Lavergne defeated Tyler Theunissen and Chris Rideau, 8-4. Logan Briggs and Jonathan Hebert topped Ian Ray and Charles Gautreaux by a count of 6-1.
Rounding out the scoring for the Pios were Gossen and Leprete, who teamed to defeat Joel Berken and C.J. Miller 6-1.
In girls’ action, the Lady Pios battled to a 4-4 tie with Jennings.
Freshman Natalie Benson lost to Erica David at No. 1 singles, 8-2, and Julie Reggie at No. 2 was defeated by Courtni Pollard 8-4.
Kaitlyn Prevost picked up a singles victory at the third court, defeating Nikki Lopez 8-2.
The Lady Pios’ No. 1 doubles team of Carli Thibodeaux and Natalie John came from behind to defeat Erica David and Kate Hollier in a tiebreaker 9-8. Caroline Nickel and Tommie Anzalone dropped the second court to Courtni Pollard and Nikki Lopez 8-2.
At No. 3, Sydney Hebert and Katie Reggie lost to Jade Benoit and Morgan Fontenot, 8-6. At No. 4, Margaret Gielen and Vicky Stoma defeated Sam Gunnell and Myra Cormier, 8-4. Julie Reggie and Stoma topped Victoria Parsley and Dominique Juneau, 6-4.
The ND netters traveled to Willowwood Park in New Iberia Saturday for a neutral court matchup with the E.D. White Cardinals. They return home to Mauboules Park Tuesday to host Teurlings.
