Chiasson seeks mayor’s seat in Morse election
The Crowley Post-Signal will publish announcements of candidacy in advance of the Nov. 4 primary elections. Announcements will be published on a first-come, first-serve basis through Oct. 21 in the newspaper with no announcements being published in the Sunday edition nor during the final two weeks prior to the election date.
Announcements, with color pictures, may be delivered to the Post-Signal business office (602 N. Parkerson Ave. in Crowley) during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, or emailed to steve.bandy@crowleytoday.com or howie.dennis@crowleytoday.com.
Announcements should be held to about 600 words and the Post-Signal reserves the right to edit all announcements.
Michael Chiasson has officially announced his candidacy for the office of mayor, village of Morse in the Nov. 4 election.
Chiasson is a lifelong resident of Morse. He was educated at Morse Elementary and graduated from Midland High School.
His wife, Mary, and he have been married for 35 years. His daughter, Victoria, and her husband, Shawn Richard, are the proud parents of the Chiassons’ first grandchild, Shawn Michael.
Chiasson’s public service includes 24 years as justice of the peace for Ward 5. He also served eight years on the Mermentau River Harbor and Terminal District. Chiasson says that those many years of service have given him “the opportunity to be involved with most of the people in our area and to see how local government operates.”
Chiasson has stated that he will focus on three main areas of concern for citizens of Morse.
“As your mayor, I will focus on three main areas of concern. The first is to continue to provide clean, safe drinking water to our citizens. The recent problems with our water quality indicate long overdue maintenance on our water tower. The second area of concern is our drainage ditches. This can be a very costly, as well as dangerous problem for our citizens and has been neglected for too long. The third area of concern is the general maintenance of village property. Tall grass and weeds on village property are a disgrace and this maintenance needs to be done on a year-round basis,” he stated.
For Chiasson, being mayor means more than just attending one meeting a month. He says the mayor has duties and responsibilities that cannot be delegated to aldermen, including the daily supervision of all village employees.
“As your mayor, I will pursue this task to the fullest extent to ensure that all work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner,” Chiasson stated.
“I am a conservative and as your mayor will see that taxpaying citizens get the most for their hard earned money. I will work with all present and future village officials as well as state and federal officials to ensure that Morse is not forgotten.
“Many times, elected officials can be forgetful and ignore the citizens and taxpayers they are elected to serve. Those of you who know me well can rest assured that this is not the case with me.”
Chiasson would like to thank those who have encouraged and supported him to seek this office. He has promised to give the same honesty and dedication as he has in the past through public service.
