Mike Goss announces candidacy for District Judge
The Crowley Post-Signal will publish announcements of candidacy in advance of the Nov. 4 primary elections. Announcements will be published on a first-come, first-serve basis through Oct. 21 in the newspaper with no announcements being published in the Sunday edition nor during the final two weeks prior to the election date.
Announcements, with color pictures, may be delivered to the Post-Signal business office (602 N. Parkerson Ave. in Crowley) during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, or emailed to steve.bandy@crowleytoday.com or howie.dennis@crowleytoday.com.
Announcements should be held to about 600 words and the Post-Signal reserves the right to edit all announcements.
Local attorney Mike Goss has announced his candidacy for 15th Judicial District Court Judge in the upcoming primary scheduled for Nov. 4.
“It is with great respect for the position of district court judge that I seek to take this next step in public service to this great community,” Goss said. “I am excited and humbled with the outpouring of support and encouragement that I have received while contemplating the decision to run.
“I love Acadia Parish, having lived here almost all of my life, and I share the great conservative values that have made this one of the best places to live and raise a family. It would be a tremendous honor to serve this great community as its 15th Judicial District Court Judge.”
Goss stated, “I have always believed in service to others. I chose a career in law to do just that. My family and I have been very active in our community both through public service and through volunteerism.
“My career has uniquely equipped me to serve as a district court judge. My commitment to the community, and my training and experience as a lawyer, has provided me with the temperament and compassion to decide cases impartially and fairly.
“I’m incredibly blessed to live in this community and raise my family here. I want to continue to serve the community that has given so much to me and my family over the years. I will use my diverse legal experience and background along with a sense of fairness to serve the community with honor and integrity.”
Goss has a broad legal background that began with a law degree in 1995 from Loyola University School of Law where he was a member of the prestigious Loyola Law Review.
Goss worked his way through law school by working for Judge Frank Marullo in Orleans Parish Criminal Court. After graduation he worked at the law firm of Domengeaux, Wright, Roy & Edwards in Lafayette for over 10 years, where he represented injured parties, provided legal counsel to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, provided legal defense to local law enforcement officers and other general civil matters.
Goss worked as assessor and chief deputy assessor of Acadia Parish, where he took a conservative approach to managing assessments while upgrading technology and practices in the office. Since leaving the Assessor’s office, Goss has been the legal services director for a large software company and has handled general civil matters locally.
“For nearly 20 years I have used my legal education and experience to represent my clients and assist the public and businesses with important matters in an honest, forthright, fair and courteous manner,” Goss said. “I will bring each of these qualities to the bench.
“I have always treated everyone with integrity, honesty and respect, and if elected I will conduct my courtroom in the same manner.”
Goss commented, “These ideals are not just campaign slogans. It is how I lead my life. I am committed to serve by these ideals and I will bring a conservative, honest and fair approach to the bench.”
He continued, “I understand the importance of ethical public service, integrity and equal justice. A judge must be tough and strong while compassionate when needed. He should follow the law and seek justice according to the facts — but not at the expense of common sense.
“It matters that your next judge has integrity inside and outside of the courtroom along with the commitment to serve all people fairly and equally.
“Judges make decisions that impact people’s lives. Whether it’s punishing criminals or compensating victims, we need a judge that we can trust to handle these decisions with compassion and wisdom.
“I have a proven track record of public service and trust within our community. I will treat people with the dignity and respect that they deserve while being tough on criminals that want to cause harm to our community and families.
“My parents taught me the virtues of honesty, respect, hard work and compassion. I strive to instill these same values in my children, not just through words, but by my actions. I stand for unquestioned honesty, integrity and fairness on the bench, traditional family values and a firm commitment to public service,” he said.
On the personal side, Goss has maintained a strong commitment to the community through civic works. He is an active member and past president of the Crowley Rotary Club, past board member of the Community Outreach Corporation, and is a graduate and former board member of Leadership Excel.
Goss is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Acadia Parish Bar Association, Lafayette Parish Bar Association, Crowley Chamber of Commerce, OneAcadia, Ducks Unlimited, and a former member of the American Trial Lawyers Association and the International Association of Assessing Officers.
Goss is a graduate of Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish and obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
He and his family are members of St. Michael’s Church. He is married to DeAnn Watlington Goss and is the proud father of two sons, Michael and Ryan.
