Barnaba arrested in chicken theft

Authorities in Acadia Parish have arrested a Lafayette man following an investigation into the theft of chickens valued at over $6,700.
According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, his office received two separate complaints from a resident living in the 300 block of Crown Street in Rayne that two subjects had entered a barn and stole in excess of a dozen chickens.
Video footage capturing the theft was uploaded to Facebook and was provided to law enforcement in an attempt to identify the suspects.
Investigators with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office and Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office followed up on information that was received and a warrant of arrest was issued for Erick Shayne Barnaba, 18, of the 300 block of Malapart Road in Lafayette.
Barnaba was charged with two counts of simple burglary. He was placed in the Acadia Parish Jail with bond set at $15,000 by District Judge John Trahan.
