Rayne Police make 3 arrests

Separate incidents all aiding in fight against drugs

Information provided by Rayne Police Department in three separate press releases.

In three separate incidents, the Rayne Police Department recently arrested three individuals. These individuals all were charged with drug-related counts.

• On Feb. 19, 2014, the Rayne Police Department arrested Neil Charles, 41, for multiple narcotic violations.

Chief Carroll Stelly stated that Neil Charles was arrested for two counts of distribution of a schedule II CDS (controlled dangerous substance): Oxycodone, one count of distribution of a schedule IV CDS: Alprazolam and two counts of transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses. 

Charles was recently arrested by the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office for other narcotics related activity. 

Stelly added that “this arrest will help curtail the prescription medication diversion within Rayne. 

“This arrest is not isolated and we are actively pursuing narcotics distribution within our jurisdiction and the public can expect more arrest in the near future,” he said.

Charles was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail without incident. Judge Jim Cunningham placed an $85,000 bond on Charles.

• Last week, Skylar Gaspard was arrested for one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and transactions involving money from drug proceeds. 

Gaspard is being held in the Rayne City Jail. He is currently on probation for a prior offense and is not eligible for bond at this time.

• Last week, the Rayne Police Department arrested Dominick Mott for controlled substance violations.

Chief Carroll Stelly advised that Mott is currently confined in the Acadia Parish Jail for probation violations from in December 2013 when his officers conducted a search warrant on the residence. 

Stelly added that Wednesday, his officers added additional charges to Mott. They are two counts of distribution of a schedule II CDS (controlled dangerous substance: Oxycodone and two counts of transactions involving proceeds from controlled substance activity.

Stelly advised that this arrest will put a major dent in the prescription pain pill distribution in the city of Rayne.
