Tip leads to arrest; sheriff’s office arrests another in separate incident

Investigators with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office have arrested a 43-year-old Abbeville man following the investigation of residential burglary that occurred Monday morning on Coin Road near Rayne.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon his office received information as to the possible identity of the suspect following a tip from a television viewer after seeing the homeowner’s video on a local television station. Authorities in Acadia Parish confirmed the suspect identity with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office. 

Arrested was Eric Donyell Petry of Prairie Avenue in Abbeville. Petry is being charged with one count of simple burglary. He was placed in the Acadia Parish Jail.

In an unrelated incident, investigators with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Jonathan Reed Romero, 41, of Katherine Drive, Crowley and charged him with sexual battery and failure to register as a sex offender.

The arrest stems from an incident that was reported to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 2. District Judge Glenn Everett set bond at $70,000. He was placed in the Acadia Parish Jail.
