Jones, Gibson re-elected in Crowley, Boustany to House; several key races heading to runoff

It was a night of landslides and surprises across the state as several races were destined for the Dec. 6 general runoff elections and several more gave municipalities a clear future.

In Crowley

The parish's seat has elected its governing body for the next four years with Mayor Greg Jones re-elected to his third term and Chief of Police K.P. Gibson re-elected to a fourth term. Replacing outgoing alderwomen Laurita Pete and Mary Melancon will be Dr. Ezora Proctor and "Tim" Monceaux respectively.

In Rayne

The Frog Capitol has been a slew of political activity for months. The dust has settled into several runoff elections in the city limits.

"Chuck" Robichaux will be the new mayor of Rayne and he will be joined by aldermen Lendell "Pete" Babineaux and Calise Micheal Doucet as of now.

The remaining aldermen races, the chief of police election and the city marshal's seat will all be decided in December.

City Marshal: Alex "Joe" Lacroix and Jamie Conques

Chief of Police: Carroll Stelly and Joseph "Joe" Caillet.

Alderman, Ward 1: Anna "Ann" Domingue-Washington and Curtrese Minix

Alderman, Ward 2: Kenneth Guidry and Larry J. Menard

Alderman, Ward 4: James "Jimmy" Fontenot and Gerald Foreman.

District bouts

It comes as no surprise that the race of four for 15th Judicial District Judge will need another month to decided. David Smith and Mike Goss were named to the runoff election.

The nastiest race locally was the election of the 15th Judicial District Attorney. Mike Harson was defeated for his seat by Keith Stutes.

Capitol Hill

Dr. Charles Boustany Jr., R-Lafayette, held onto his seat in resounding fashion, earning well north of 80 percent of the state's votes.

Meanwhile in the Senate, things were too close to call and a runoff is set between Mary Landri, the incumbent, and Bill "Cassidy.
