Millages renewed

Less than 2,000 cast ballots

Less than 2,000 Acadia Parish residents went to the polls to decide the fates of two millage renewals.

Both, however, passed by a wide margin and will be renewed through 2024.

Up for renewal were a 1.5-mill property assessment dedidcated for funding services for the elderly (including the establishment and maintenance of senior citizens centers) and a 4.25-mill tax renewal dedicated to the operation and maintenance of the Acadia Parish Library system.

The elderly services millage raises an estimated $580,000 annually. It received 86.48 percent, or 1,657 yes votes. Voting no were 13.52 percent, or 259 people.

The library-designated millage raises about $1.6 million. Voting yes were 1,627, or 85.14 percent; voting no were 284, or 14.86 percent.
