Qualifying opens for Oct. 24 vote

Candidate qualifying for the Oct. 24 primary elections began Tuesday morning with very few surprises in Acadia Parish.
In Acadia, all parishwide seats — including sheriff, clerk of court, assessor, coroner and police jury — will be decided.
Also, special elections are being held to fill unexpired terms in District 1 of the school board and for chief of police in Iota.
Candidates for state offices also began qualifying on Tuesday.
The final day to register to be eligible to vote in the Oct. 24 election is Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Early voting for the primary election will be held Oct. 10 through 17.
Qualifying is open through 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the clerk of court’s office.
Registration and early voting is conducted in the registrar of voters’ office.
In races that will appear on ballots in Acadia Parish, the following candidates qualified on Tuesday:
