Rice Festival Front Door Decorating Contest announced

Deadline for entry is Friday, Oct. 14

The Crowley Garden Club has announced that it will once again host the Front Door Decorating Contest for the 80th International Rice Festival.
The contest, which is open to both businesses and individuals, is intended to promote the International Rice Festival, the rice industry and an interest in floral design.
Crowley residents and businesses are encouraged to decorate their front doors with a rice wreath or swag.
There must be an emphasis on rice, with rice being included as a component of the wreath or swag decoration. The design may use fresh, dried and/or treated materials. An existing fall wreath with rice added to it qualifies.
Although the festival theme may be incorporated into the design, it is not a requirement of the contest.
The competition will be judged by members of the Crowley Garden Club based on overall design, originality and creativity. Decorations should be suitable for public viewing, eye-catching and creative.
Winners will receive rosette ribbons and commemoration in the 2017 IRF Rice and Creole Cookbook
All entries must be received by Friday, Oct. 14. Judging will take place the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 17, and winners will be notified by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
For more information, or to enter the contest, contact Saja Hoffpauir at (337) 296-5021 or sdogg70@hotmail.com or Marlene Brantley at (337) 349-4478 or beanjimbrantley51@gmail.com.
