Beatrice Nixon honoree of 102nd birthday party

RAYNE - On Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, a special birthday party was held at the Union Hall in honor of the 102nd birthday of Mrs. Beatrice Harmon Nixon of Rayne
She was honored during a special 3 p.m. celebration hosted by her family and attended by her family and friends.
Mrs. Nixon was born Oct. 8, 1913, to Elizabeth and Avery Harmon.
She and her husband, the late Isaac Nixon Sr., are the parents of eight children, Georgia Mae St. Julian, Sam Nixon, Delia Mae Price, Leroy Nixon, Ora Lee Young, LJ Nixon, Isaac Nixon Jr. and Georgia Marie Cooper.
She is the grandmother of 20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, most of whom were in attendance for the special celebration.
“Happy Birthday” was sung by everyone for the birthday honoree, followed by everyone enjoying a special birthday cake, a large Bible-shaped white confection topped with purple roses and rosebuds and aqua trim and writing.
The welcome was given by Kathalyn Syrie and Kimberly Price to begin the program, as the birthday honoree and her children entered.
The opening prayer was given by Nathaniel Dalton, with musical selections by the Salt of the Earth Gospel Choir under the direction of Larry Wiltz.
A special presentation was made by Mayor Charles “Chuck” Robichaux on behalf of the City of Rayne, including a key to the city.
Tyler Syrie and Samaya Nixon read a special poem, followed by a liturgical dance performed by Erykah Price, Teryn Handy, Taylor Syrie and Najah Citizen.
Stephanie Henry read “In Memory” with a tribute by all in attendance.
“What You Are To Me” was recited by Hailyn and Aavyn Honore, Devin and Wendall Price Jr., and Journie Joseph.
Rev. Lionel St. Julian led the Blessing for the meal prior to guests enjoying a late afternoon meal.
Special guests in attendance were friends Dorothy Larry, Annie Nickerson, Ruth Francis and Mrs. Cooper.
