Rotarians encouraged to attend ‘Notoriously Cimmer’

The city of Crowley’s Mardi Gras celebrations grow each year, none moreso than the Krewe of Town Revelers Carnival Ball.

Tuesday, at the Rotary Club of Crowley’s meeting, Claire Kelbaugh, director of this year’s program, and Laurie Suire, ball marketing and program director, spoke to Rotarians about this year’s event, which is only two-and-a-half weeks away.

Set for Saturday, March 1, the ball will be held at the International Rice Festival Building once again and will begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available now and are going fast. And this year, for the first time ever, they are being sold exclusively online.

“When we last looked, there were only about 150 tickets left,” said Kelbaugh. “I hope you all can come.”

Suire added that a sold-out show, which occurred last year is 700 tickets, meaning that less than a quarter of the tickets remain and once the week of the ball rolls around, tickets ar hard to come by.

However, the success of the online sales thus far, shows that tickets are already going fast for the event. Suire and Kelbaugh both recommended interested parties should act now if they want to make sure they have a seat.

The event features two types of seating. Reserved seats are, in fact, seats, while general admission tickets are standing room only.

As for the ball itself, this year’s theme is sure to once again be entertaining. Following the theme of “Notoriously Cimmer,” the ball will feature many skits and performances that will look back at infamous pairings (i.e.: Bonnie and Clyde) and will focus on the notorious ’20s.

Suire and Kelbaugh promise the night will not be dark, as some might think would come with the theme, but instead would be fun.

Kelbaugh also announced that Rotarians will have a chance to see one of 2013’s highlights at the ball as Fan Favorites from the inaugural Dancing With the Stars in a Caring Way, Linda Craton and Fr. Jared Suire have agreed to one more performance.

Kelbaugh said that those who enjoyed the performance last year will also get to enjoy an added twist to their performance at the carnival ball.

Kelbaugh also took the time to explain that while everyone puts in a lot of work each and every year to make sure the performances are not only as good as years past, but better, they do so on a volunteer basis.
