Rice Festival looking for volunteers, convertibles

Souvenirs available at Festival Office now through Wednesday

The people at the International Rice Festival office are predictably very busy, and are seeking the help of area citizens.

“We still need some people who own convertibles to volunteer their time to drive in either the Grand Parade or the Children’s Parade,” said Rice Festival Coordinator Roxie Viator. “We are also seeking some volunteers to work the beer booths for a few hours on any of the days they are open.

“Other than that we are just about ready to go.”

The Children’s Parade will roll on Friday, October 18. The Grand Parade will run on Saturday, October 19.

Those wishing to volunteer for the beer booths should contact either Delilah Persin at 337-789-1099 or Ray Morgan at 337-250-6523. Those wishing to drive their convertibles in either parade should contact Josh Spell at 337-581-7101.

Viator also wanted to let people know that the festival souvenirs (T-shirts, caps, pins, etc.) are in and can be purchased at the International Rice Festival office, located at 112 Hutchinson Ave. in Crowley, before the festival.

“We will only be selling them from the office until Wednesday,” she said. “After that people will have to buy them from vendors at the festival.”

This will also be the third year that people can download an International Rice Festival app for their cell phones.

The app will have locations, directions and times for all the bands and other events that take place during the festivities. It can be downloaded for free from the App Store for iPhone and other Apple devices and Google Play Store for Android devices.

The 77th International Rice Festival will run from Oct. 17-20.
