‘Stamp Out Hunger’ drive May 10

Help stamp out hunger Saturday, May 10, for America’s largest anti-hunger food drive.

Help families meet their basic needs for food by participating in the 22nd annual National Association of Letter Carriers food drive in partnership with United Way of Acadiana, the USPS and Food Net.

Community members in the cities across Acadiana wishing to donate food items are urged to place a bag of non-perishable food items next to the mailbox May 10 and your postman will do the rest.

Crowley-area residents can expect notices soon to let them know how they can participate locally.

Volunteers are also needed in the Lafayette area to help collect and sort food donations May 10 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bertrand Post Office at 1830 Bertrand Dr.

All food collected will be delivered to food banks serving Acadiana.

“We invite volunteers to lend a hand to help sort and organize donations,” said Keler Williams, United Way of Acadiana director of volunteer mobilization. “Last year, donations totaled more than 63,000 pounds of food valued at more than $106,470.

“This provided 42,000 meals to Acadiana families, removing the food insecurity barrier of having to make trade-offs between housing or medical bills and purchasing nutritionally adequate foods. We all win when area communities come together so that neighbors can meet their basic needs.”
