The 13th Annual City-Wide Back to School Event and Family Fun Day. was held Sunday, Aug. 9, by the A & O 21st Century Club, along with assistance by Sisters of A & O and 6th Man Sports.
The 2015 event was again held at the Rayne Civic Center, a free event for the Rayne community to assist with back to school expenses, in addition to fun for the entire family.
The entire Rayne community was invited to the free event where school supplies, uniforms, free food, door prizes, fun jumps, music, 3-on-3 basketball tournament, and even a free bingo for the adults were provided to ensure a family-oriented event.
Brian Mouton, one of the organizers of the event, noted that approximately 600 students participated in the week-long “open gym” where they enjoyed the provided activities.
“We would like to thank the many individuals and businesses who helped and provided donations for the event,” stated Mouton. “A special thanks to the City of Rayne for allowing us to provide this needed service for our youth. In addition, we would like to thank the many volunteers and donors who helped in many ways for another week of successful events. We could not have completed this event without their help.”
With the Acadia Parish School Board providing school supplies for kindergarten-fifth grade students, the A&O program provided 300 school bags with students receiving additional school supplies.
The A & O also sponsored a street drive to help with the purchase of much-needed school supplies for Rayne youth. Many thanks are extended to the individuals who helped with this annual venture.
Special thanks are extended from the A&O Club to the following individuals and businesses who assisted with the 13th Annual City-Wide Back to School Event and Family Fun Day: Sisters of A&O, City of Rayne, C.J.
