Authorities in Acadia Parish are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a Plaquemine man wanted in connection with a shooting here Saturday morning.
According to Sheriff Wayne Melancon, a Crowley man was hospitalized after he was shot in the face, arm and back at the Kathy Apartment Complex located in the 200 block of Kathy Apartments in Crowley Saturday morning.
Investigators said a couple had returned to the complex and were entering their apartment when two subjects wearing dark clothing and ski masks forced their way into the residence and began firing shots.
The male resident, who has not been identified by officials, was struck.
Melancon said investigators with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office have obtained multiple warrants of arrests for 29-year-old Gevin Louis Varise of the 57000 block of Canal Street in Plaquemine in connection with that incident.
Melancon added that investigators have also issued warrants for the arrest of Varise in connection with an armed robbery that took place at Kathy Apartments and was reported by the victim on Jan. 6.
For the two incidents, Varise is being charged with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted armed robbery, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and attempted aggravated burglary.
According to investigators, nothing was taken in the April 25 shooting while money and a watch were taken during the Jan. 6 armed robbery.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Varise or the identity of the second suspect wanted in connection with the Saturday morning shooting should contact your local law enforcement agency or the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office at 788-8700.
