APSO identifies woman in accidental death

Authorities in Acadia Parish are investigating a death that occurred near Church Point Friday.
According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, his office received a call concerning a grass fire behind a residence in the 8400 block of the Church Point Highway near Church Point. Upon arrival firefighters discovered that the homeowner was attempting to burn trash behind the home when the wind shifted trapping the 61-year-old woman resulting in injuries that caused her death.
Melancon stated that the Acadia Parish Coroners Office arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim dead. The woman's death is being treated as an accident. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.
