Church Point family of 8 needs assistance after fire
Donations are sought for a Church Point family that lost everything they owned in a March 3 fire.
St. Landry Parish Fire District 3 Chief Ray Mendenhall said fire crews from Church Point, Fire District 10, Richard, District 3 and other fire districts responded to a residential fire around 4 p.m. at 1044 Prudence Highway (LA 751) north of Church Point Thursday.
When crews arrived flames were seen coming from the rear right of the home and quickly engulfed the home.
All of the residents who were at home safely escaped the fire.
Fire District 3, 887 Hwy. 749, Opelousas, is accepting donations for the family of five children and three adults.
Clothing sizes are:
Boy, age 5, size 5T.
Girl, age 6, size 6/7,
Boy, age 9, size 8, (slim)
Girl, age 12, size 11/12.
Boy, age 16, size men's small.
Mother, size 9 - 10 pants, large shirt.
Father, 38/30 pants, size XL shirt.
Male relative, 32-30 pants, large shirt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
According to the owners, Pat and Paul Esquivel's daughter, Megan, an uncle, Keith Leger, who resides at the home, was mowing around the home. The 12-year-old daughter smelled smoke and removed the four other children from the home.
After putting out the fire, firefighters had to return for a second time.
