During their April meeting Tuesday evening, the Crowley City Council agreed to several motions including purchasing a new police car to replace one that had been recently totalled; reissuing a beer/liquor permit to A&J Convenience Store on West Hutchinson Avenue; and the moving of a four-way stop sign on West Seventh Street.
During the Utility Committee’s report, the council agreed to issue the ninth partial payment to Guinn Construction for the repairs being done to Facultative Pond Levee and Ultra-Violet Disinfection System at the Waste Water Treatment Facility in Crowley.
Council members also agreed to reconcile approved contract time to a final contract time. This would result in no change in the amount of the payment.
Chief of Police K.P. Gibson reported on a study he had done and recommended that a four-way stop sign be placed at the intersection of West Seventh Street and Jacob Street.
“We decided to place it there because it is much longer and therefore cars will have more of an opportunity to slow down,” said Chief Gibson.
There was some question as to whether the four-way stop sign would interfere with funeral traffic at Jerusalem Baptist Church, but after a short discussion, it was determined that the stop sign is necessary in the area.
The council also agreed to move forward on the repair of the bathroom at the Rice Festival Building. They will be requesting proposals at a date to be set later.
A police car that was recently totalled in a collision will be replaced after the council agreed to purchase a new one. Gibson said that, though the unit was unsalvageable, much of the equipment inside the vehicle was able to be saved.
The next meeting of the city council is scheduled for Tuesday, May 10.
