Estherwood shooting under investigation

An early Saturday morning shooting is under investigation in the village of Estherwood.

The Estherwood Police Department is investigating the shooting which occurred in the 700 block of North Canal Street at about 3 a.m. Saturday.

According to village police chief Kevin LeBlanc, the investigation thus far has led the department to learn the shooting stemmed from a disturbance that took place between two female residents.

During an argument, Keisha Daigle, 31, fired several shots, of which an 18-year-old male was struck with in the upper back and arm. The male victim was transported to Acadia General Hospital for treatment of the injuries which were described as not life-threatening.

Daigle was arrested and charged with one count of attempted manslaughter and two counts of attempted first-degree murder. She has been placed in the Acadia Parish Jail.

Assisting LeBlanc and the department in the investigation was the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office Investigation Division.

The incident remains under investigation.
