Germanfest This Weekend In Roberts Cove

Roberts Cove - Celebrate in German-style at the 21st Annual Roberts Cove Germanfest this weekend on Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4, on the grounds of St. Leo IV Catholic Church in Roberts Cove, located off Rayne Exit 87 on Interstate 10 in Acadia Parish. Activities will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Come out and enjoy traditional Cove German foods, German cultural activities, folklore, music, dancing, and other great food and drinks.
German bands, Auf Gent’s and Alpenmusikanten, invite Fest goers to participate in their entertainment, along with the Roberts Cove Germanfest Folk Singers and German dancers. A delightful attraction is Kinder Auftrit, a local children’s dancing and singing group.
Festival goers will enjoy the Roberts Cove German Heritage Museum which exhibits artifacts from many ancestors. Exhibits change from year to year so that you can experience the different items, traditions and crafts handed down from generation to generation.
Visit the folklore tent and learn about the area’s history; and see demonstrations of crafts handed down from ancestors. A favorite attraction is the rice threshing demonstrations which shows a re-enactment of the threshing dinner, sack sewing and shock assembly.
As a “kid friendly” festival the festival offers Kinder Land with free games and activities. Other attractions include a display of antique tractors and the Blacksmith Association demonstrating old time blacksmith skills. Fest goers are also invited to visit the Germanfest Gift Shop with available items such as hand crafted gifts, German hats, pins, t-shirts, German cookbooks, aprons, steins, canned fruits and vegetables, and much more.
Roberts Cove Germanfest is a fun event for all ages which allows the community of Roberts Cove to showcase its German culture and raise awareness of a German community in Louisiana that has maintained its heritage for over a century in this predominately French area. Follow the signs from Interstate 10 Exit 87 for approximately three miles.
