Golden Frog Festival royal couple crowned in Rayne

Pat, Loretta Bordes honored at Saturday ABWA reception

Winford “Pat” Bordes and Loretta Ann Couville Bordes will reign as the 27th Golden Frog Festival King and Queen.
The couple were crowned during a reception in their honor held Saturday at Rayne City Hall.
They succeed Michael “Mike” and Mary Alice Pastor as the Golden Royalty.
The annual presentation is hosted by the Cajun Hospitality Chapter of American Business Women’s Association.
A number of past title holders as well as various current royalty were on hand to welcome the Bordes.
Pat Bordes is the son of Wilson Sr. and Suzanne Bordes and is a 1960 graduate of Rayne High School. He served in the National Guard for six years.
He worked as a car salesman, did road construction for Rimmer and Garret for 12 years, was custodian at Rayne State Bank for 15 years and is currently employed by Bordes Construction with his son Coty.
Loretta Bordes is the daughter of Walter and Estelle Courville of Eunice and is a 1963 graduate of Eunice High School.
She has worked in accounting for 50 years at different locations in Rayne. She is currently semi-retired and still works part-time at Frog City Travel Plaza and Casino as an accountant since its opening 17 years ago.
Married for 53 years, the couple has three children — Pat II, married to Jessica Bourgeois and being honored this year as the Frog Festival Grand Marshal; Coty, married to Jena Istre; and Julie, married to Brad Lopez — and seven grandchildren.
Following the crowning by the outgoing Golden Royalty, the Bordes were presented “Honorary Frog Catcher”certificates and other gifts by Mayor Charles “Chuck” Robichaux.
Also during Saturday’s reception, ABWA Scholarship winners were presented by Beverly Rayon, scholarship chairwoman.
Scholarship recipients this year include:
•-Clare Alleman, daughter of Blake and Kelli Alleman of Rayne.
A senior at Rayne High School, Miss Alleman plans to attend LSUE in the fall and pursue a degree in business management.
•-Katherine M. Constantin, daughter of Cathy Chatelain of Rayne.
The Rayne High senior plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to study photography/business.
•-Sybil Lorraine Duncan, daughter of Shea and Kathy Duncan of Crowley.
Miss Duncan is a senior at Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish and plans to attend LSU in the fall and major in pre-medicine.
•-Morgan Oliver, daughter of Chet and Cynthia Oliver of Rayne.
A senior at Notre Dame, Miss Oliver will be attending LSU in the fall where she will be pursuing a degree in mass communications.
•-Victoria B. Richard, daughter of Sean and Holly Richard of Rayne.
Looking forward to a career in sports medicine/business, Miss Richard will be attending UL Lafayette upon graduation from Rayne High School.
In addition to the Pastors, other past Golden Festival Royalty in attendance included Joyce Trahan (1999), Clifford and Helena Richard (2005-06), Jack and Grace Guidry (2007-08), Donnie and Jennifer Meche (2008-09) and Rose Marie “Sis” Stelly (2009-10).
Visiting royalty included Drew Racca, Miss Frog Festival; Jennifer Autin, Ms. Project Pink; and Adelyn Autin, Little Miss Project Pink.
