Higgins leaves St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office

Capt. Clay Higgins announced Monday that he is resigning from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Higgins returned from a vacation to make the anouncment on the steps of the St. Landry Parish Courthouse.
Last week, Sheriff Guidroz said he asked Higgins to tone down his presentations for Crime Stoppers.
“We are going to tone it down,” Guidroz said. “Capt. (Clay) Higgins has done and is doing an excellent job with Crime Stoppers. We will go back to the basics of Crime Stoppers and request tips and information about crimes. We will stick to the mission.”
The sheriff’s request came after Higgins made a Crime Stoppers presentation about the Grimlins gang.
“We know that these (Gremlins) gang members are responsible for violent crimes. We don’t want to make a show or spectacle for the public. We will go back to the basics. I take full responsibility. I should have monitored this more closely. I was out of the state (when the video was shot). Capt. Higgins did nothing wrong, and he will not be disciplined. We will tone it (the segment) down to where it needs to be.”
Following the airing of the segment, the American Civil Liberties Union forwarded a statement regarding the video to KATC, taking issue with some of the things the police officer said in the broadcast.
Higgins gained fame over the Internet and in Acadiana for his monotone delivery and challenge to suspects to face justice.
