Lt. Clay Higgins, St. Landry CrimeStoppers’ intimidating media sensation, will be speaking at a luncheon hosted by the Acadian Baptist Center near Richard on Sept 15.
Music for the event will be provided by Benji Richard and the emcee will be Gene Lee, a pastor at First Baptist Church of Rayne.
Higgins, who works as the public information officer for the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, has seen his fame skyrocket since he began doing the recorded CrimeStoppers segments. His southern drawl and intimidating style have led to him being referred to as the “Cajun John Wayne.”
There is a Facebook page called “Fans of Lt. Clay Higgins” that has over 5,000 members.
Higgins first gained attention for his style when he was doing a CrimeStoppers segment looking for a casino robber named Ladarious Young.
“You can’t run from your own guilt, son,” he deadpans to the camera. “You can’t hide from what you’ve done, and you’ll never escape … the long arm of the law.”
The next day Young turned him in stating that Lt. Higgins had convinced him to do the right thing.
