On Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, a unique event will be held in the Rayne Civic Center Ballroom between 6-8 p.m. celebrating Rayne’s History.
The Lost Rayne History Program will feature never seen before artifacts, unless you lived in Rayne since 1883!
This FREE event is open to the public and is being co-sponsored by the City of Rayne, Lost Rayne and Rayne Remembered Facebook groups. If you love history, especially Rayne’s unique history, this event will have something for everyone.
At 6 p.m. the doors will open and event-goers will be able to view numerous historical items including: phone books from the 1940’s and 1950’s, local advertising items, maps, old business locations, bottles from several Rayne cold drink bottlers and pharmacies, historic documents, along with items from the Mervine Kahn Company Store and Jacque Weil Frog Company.
In addition to the displays, the release of the new Rayne Pictorial History Book, “Lost Rayne” by Arcadia Publishing, will be sold for the first time ever. Author Tony Olinger, who co-authored two previous Arcadia Books, “Images of America – Rayne” and “Images of America - Rayne’s People and Places” with Cheryl Richard, will be on hand signing books. The cost of the books are $21.99 each. Additional copies can be purchased at Olinger’s Radio Shack after the event.
The highlight of the program will begin at 7 p.m. with a showing of historic film footage of Rayne, some dating back to the 1930’s. Footage will include downtown Rayne, the great flood of 1940, homecoming parades, school dances and events, and even a look back at the Mervine Kahn Company Store before it closed in 1994.
Come out and enjoy an evening of rediscovering Rayne history and step back to a much simpler place and time. Rayne’s History is lost no more.
