Legion events planned by Post 77

A number of upcoming events were discussed during Tuesday’s meeting of American Legion’s Arceneaux Post 77,.
Legionnaires will participate in the 9-11 Honor and Remembrance Ceremony hosted by Woodmen Life Chapter 31 on Friday, Sept. 11, at 9 a.m. at the Depot. Chairman Robert Comeaux invited everyone to attend the public event. Everyone is urged to pay respect to all 9-11 heroes and all the people who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
Comeaux also gave an update on the building maintenance of needed and completed projects of the Legion Home.
Commander David Simon gave an update of the plans for the upcoming Veterans Appreciation Meal slated in November to coincide with Veterans Day. All Acadia Parish Legion posts are participating and all parish veterans are invited to attend. Another planning meeting is slated for Sept. 23.
Ray Olinger gave the membership report noting 122 memberships paid up to date or 59% membership.
Olinger also announced Boys Stater Evan Alleman of Rayne High School was invited to attend the October meeting when he will give a report of the summer program he attended while representing Post 77.
Commander Simon advised the membership of the upcoming events to be held at the Legion Home, including a number of weddings and entertainment.
Post Adjutant Lee John reported of the Ladies Auxiliary of Louisiana will be composing and eventually sell cookbooks as an Auxiliary fundraiser. More information will be given at the following meeting.
Welcomed were District Commander Joe Monroe and District Color Bearer Dennis Hart, both of Post #225 in Church Point. Monroe spoke of the District Fall Conference planned Oct. 4 in Sulphur #179. Hart presented information of the 7th District Blood Drive program and urged Post 77 to participate by sponsoring a day for a blood drive. As 7th district blood drive chairman, Hart explained the program and noted any legionnaire needing blood would receive the “gift of life” as a direct result of the Post’s blood drive. The Rayne event will be announced as soon as scheduled with the public urged to participate and donate.
With no additional business, the meeting was adjourned and a meal was served by the Legion cooks.
