Legion events, programs planned by Post 77

A number of upcoming events were discussed during the November meeting of American Legion’s Arceneaux Post 77 as announced by Commander David Simon.
Legionnaires were invited to attend a number of Veterans Day events and programs. The largest school events is planned Nov. 11 at Rayne High School at 10:15 a.m. Local and area churches were also planning observances.
The Veterans Coalition Gumbo for all veterans of Acadia Parish was scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, in Church Point.
Other events include a Veterans Day program to be held at the War Veterans Home in Jennings, Veterans program at the Rice Theater in Crowley, and the 1st Responders Breakfast on Nov. 17 at Frog City Travel Plaza in Rayne.
Commander Simon also reminder members of the upcoming Winter Conference on Jan. 16-17, 2016, in Alexandria.
Veterans were invited to attend the unveiling of the new wing for the World War II Museum in New Orleans on Dec. 11.
Building Maintenance Chairman Robert Comeaux gave an update on the building maintenance of needed and completed projects of the Legion Home. Comeaux also reported the repair of the flagpoles located at St. Joseph Cemetery #1 and #2 and Istre Cemetery.
Ray Olinger gave the membership report noting 145 memberships paid up to date or 69% membership. Olinger also reminded the membership of the increase of $5 as of the first of the year. He urges all members to make the payment of dues before Dec. 31st to avoid the additional fee.
Commander Simon advised the membership of the upcoming events to be held at the Legion Home, including a number of weddings and entertainment.
Legionnaire Lorraine Gaines gave a report of the new anticipated VA Clinic to be built in Lafayette. She announced the property located on Ambassador Caffey is presently being cleared with work scheduled to begin in the following months. She noted that no other information was made available for the temporary clinic to be used while waiting for the new facility.
