Legion plans September dance

Positive reports of recent events held at the Legion Home were given during Tuesday’s meeting of Arceneaux Post 77, American Legion.
Commander David Simon thanked everyone for their assistance and attendance for the two dances held during the month of August at the Legion Home. An over-flow crowd was witnessed for both events and plans are now being made for additional dances for the coming months.
Kenny Fife and the Bac Trac Band will be headlining a dance on Saturday, Sept. 20, between the hours of 8-12 midnight. Tickets are $10 per person at the door. Plans are also being planned for an October and a New Year’s Eve program. Information will be given as it becomes available.
Under reports, membership was reported at 111 paid up memberships or 49% for the 2014-2015 membership year.
A reminder was given for an 9-11 flag ceremony to be hosted by Rayne Chapter 31 of Woodmen of the World in commemoration of those who lost their lives in 9-11 attacks. The September 11 ceremony will be held at The Depot Square beginning at 9 a.m., with city and emergency response officials asked to participate, in addition to Legionnaires to present and raise the Colors. The public is invited to participate in the event. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
Commander Simon reminded members of the District Legion Meeting to be held Sept. 28 in Sulphur.
An announcement was also given for the annual Fishing Rodeo to be held at the War Veterans Home in Jennings on Saturday, Oct. 4. Members were asked to assist with the event and help veterans during the day.
An update was given on the recent approval of the Lafayette and Lake Charles VA Super Clinics. Once completed, the two locations will provide four-times the space for treatment, in addition to speciality services. It was also noted of the recent change of the Alexandria VA Hospital to a super clinic status.
With no additional business to be brought before the Legion the meeting was adjourned and a meal was served by the Legion cooks.
