Library to show ‘Willy Wonka’

A movie that has been delighting children and adults alike for many years will be February’s movie matinee at the Acadia Parish Library.

Released in 1971, “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” tells the story a boy of little means winning the chance to tour the world’s most eccentric chocolate factory.

The Crowley branch of the Acadia Parish Library will air the movie as part of its Saturday Morning Children’s Movie Matinee Saturday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m.

The Crowley branch is located at 1125 N. Parkerson Ave.

The movie airing coincidentally falls the day before the anniversary of the founding of Hershey’s Chocolate, founded Feb. 9, 1894.

The plot for the movie is as follows:

The world is shocked when Willy Wonka announces that five lucky people will be given a tour of the factory, shown all the secrets of his amazing candy and one will win a lifetime supply of Wonka chocolate. This after years of living in seclusion in his factory.

While everyone wants to find the “golden tickets,” no one wants to more than young Charlie. 

Charlie and his family, however, have the odds stacked against them, as buying one bar of chocolate is a treat and luxury for the family. While others in search of the golden tickets are buying cases at a time.

But magically, Charlie becomes one of the five and he and the other four, somewhat odious, children get the chance of a lifetime and a tour of the factory. 

As the movie plays on each child is faced with a choice with mild disasters befalling the odious children, leaving Charlie the opportunity to potentially beat the odds.

The movie runs 100 minutes and is rated G.
