Queen to be crowned during halftime of boys varsity game Friday

This Friday’s basketball games for Midland High versus Kaplan will conclude the defending LHSAA Class B champions’ homecoming festivities after a week full of activities.

The school’s student body will enjoy lunchtime activities and dress-up days leading into Friday night’s games. Action begins at 5:30 p.m. with the girls’ junior varsity game followed by both girls and boys’ varsity games.

During halftime of the boys’ varsity contest, Midland will recognize 15 seniors – its 2014 Homecoming Court – and crown its 2014 Homecoming Queen.

The court is comprised of the following ladies:

Morgan Faith Comeaux, daughter of Hope and Donald Comeaux of Morse.

Comeaux’s time at Midland has been spent in various extracurricular activities, such as band for one year  and FCCLA for two years where she served as vice president of finance. She has also maintained a 2.8 grade point average.

She has volunteered her time at a nursing home as well as with families with special need children and was an American Cancer Society Relay For Life team member.

After graduation, Comeaux plans to attend college and major in health care.

Johanna Nicole Guilbeaux, 17-year-old daughter of Joanie Credeur of Morse.

Guilbeaux currently maintains a 2.61 GPA. She has received several awards as a student at Midland, including Outstanding Band Member, the B Average Award and was recognized as a member of the Rebel Band Color Guard.

Her extracurricular activities include five years of band, four years of flags, a member of FFA for three years, the Chess Club for two years, 4-H for one year and a member of the basketball team for one year.

Guilbeaux plans to attend college and earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing after graduation.

Macy Paige Hoffpauir, a resident of Midland and the 17-year-old daughter of Kayla Wimberly and Jerod Hoffpauir and stepdaughter of Steven Wimberly.

Hoffpauir has been a member of the Beta Club for two years and Student Council and FFA for three years. She has also holds a 3.5 GPA.

She has been recognized with the B Average Award for three years, lettered in basketball for three years – where she boasts an All-Parish team selection and All-District second team selection – and track, which saw her place third in the javelin at Regionals. 

Outside of school, she has volunteered her time helping the elderly at the nursing home.

After graduation, her plans are to attend SOWELA Technical Community College and major in accounting technology.

Elizabeth Istre, daughter of Jennifer Istre and Robert Istre of Morse.

Elizabeth Istre, 17, is a 4.0 student at Midland High. She has been awarded the A Average Award, Beta Award, FFA Award and lettered in basketball during her high school career.

Istre’s extracurricular activities include Beta Club membership for five years, FFA for two years and FCCLA for one year, as well as being a part of the basketball team for three years and track team for two years.

After graduation, her plans are to attend McNeese State University to become an athletic trainer.

Kelsey Marie Istre, 18, daughter of Ernest and Carissa Istre of Crowley.

She maintains a 2.7 grade point average and has received the B Average Award. Her extracurricular activities include membership in both FFA and 4-H.

In an effort to serve the community, Kelsey Istre has participated in the food drive for her church, and as part of 4-H Junior Leadership has visited the local veterans home  and helped disabled children.

After graduation, her plans are to attend college and major in dental hygiene.

Kristy Nicole Istre, 18, daughter of Ricky and Darla Istre of Mermentau.

While keeping a 3.9 GPA, she has earned various awards over the years, including the English III and family and consumer science (FACS) Faculty Awards, the A Average award for four years, her academic jacket, awards for Student Council and the Beta Club, was a delegate for Louisiana Girls State, has three letters in track and two in basketball, placed first in Literary Rally for FACS and third for English III and was a State Literary Rally delegate for three years.

She has been a member of several organizations including Student Council, serving as secretary; 4-H Club, photographer; the yearbook staff, editor; and Beta Club.

Her time away from school has been spent participating in a can drive as a member of a youth group, the coat drive for 4-H and selling T-shirts to raise money for a cancer patient.

After graduation, Kristy Istre plans to attend McNeese State Univeristy and major in elementary education.

Kaitlynn Lovelady, 17, daughter of Summer Myers of Estherwood.

Lovelady is a 3.5 GPA student at Midland. While attending Midland, she has been recognized with the A Average Award for two years and B Average Award for two years, she has received FFA officer and judging pins, was presented awards as a member of Student Council, was a representative for Louisiana Girls State and lettered in cheerleading for three years and was presented an All-American Cheerleader award. She is currently the co-captain of the squad.

Along with cheerleading, her extracurricular activities include Student Council and FFA where she was a student advisor last year and parliamentarian this year.

Lovelady’s out-of-school time has been spent participating in burger sales, donating can food and supplies with her church, helping dogs at Tractor Supply and volunteering at the local veterans home.

After graduation, she plans to attend McNeese and majoring in psychology.

Kayla Meche, 17, daughter of Randy and Angelic Meche of Estherwood.

Meche was a Literary State Rally finalist, placing third, and was presented the B Average Award. She also has a 2.8 GPA.

Her club activity includes membership in 4-H and Student Council.

For service to community, Meche lists her main goal is to help others in need.

After graduation, she plans attend college and major in pharmacy.

Brittany Shae Medows, 18, a resident of Crowley and daughter of Tiffanie Banks and Dustin Medows and stepdaughter of Kacie Medows.

While maintaining a 3.0 GPA, she was recognized in 2014 with an award for A’s and B’s and the in 2013 for all A’s.

Her extracurricular activities include membership in FCCLA for five years and 4-H, Student Council and FFA for four years. She has also been a varsity cheerleader for four years and is captain of the squad this school year.

For two years, Medows has volunteered at the Acadia Parish Animal Shelter and was also a participant in the Acadia Parish CHOICES Program.

Her plans after graduation are to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to become a registered nurse.

Keisha Kaye Miller,17, daughter of Richard and Emily Miller of Morse.

Miller has been recognized with numerous awards in her high school career including the A Average Award for two years and B Average Award for two more years, the Student Council and Beta Club awards, was a representative at Louisiana Girls State, awarded FFA judging pins, the algebra I Faculty Award was a Literary Rally delegate for French I and was presented the Taylor Scholar Award. She also has a 3.5 GPA.

Her extracurricular activities include 4-H Club member for two years, Student Council for three years and membership in the Beta Club, Chess Club and yearbook staff. She has also been a member of FFA for four years, where she was parliamentarian in the 2011-12 school year, chaplain last year and is currently vice president.

Miller has participated in burger and bake sales outside of school as well as the 4-H and FFA coat drive and volunteers at a veterans home.

After graduation, she plans on attending McNeese State University to earn a bachelor’s degree in radiology.

Shelbi Hope Monceaux, 17-year-old daughter of John and Marlane Monceaux of Morse

Monceaux boasts a 3.7 GPA. As a student at Midland High, she has been recognized for four years with the A Average Award and was presented the Star Chapter Award last year.

Her extracurricular activities include Beta Club for five years, the track team for three years, the basketball team for two years and a member of Student Council for one year.

She has also been a member of FFA for several years, serving as sentinel two years ago, vice president last year and secretary this year.

After graduation, Monceaux plans to attend McNeese and major in agricultural education/farm management.

Maci Tye Premo, 17, daughter of Jaime Lois Myers and the late Ralph Premo of Midland.

Premo has held membership in Student Council and maintains a 3.7 GPA while attending Midland.

She has also been recognized with several awards during her high school career including letters in track and basketball, the A Average Award and a medal in Advanced Clothing and Textiles.

Her volunteer activities include helping at the veterans home.

Premo’s post-graduation plans including attending UL Lafayette for hospitality management and accounting.

Taylor Rene Schexnayder, 17-year-old daughter of Tracy and Radley Schexnayder of Mermentau.

Schexnayder holds a 2.5 GPA. She has been presented the B Average Award, the Reading I medal and FFA B Medal.

Her club memberships include FFA for two years and FCCLA for two years, serving as vice president of community service.

In her community service activities, she lists donating money, clothes and food and helping people in need.

After graduation, Schexnayder plans to attend LSU Eunice for respiratory or physical therapy.

Raven Touchet, 17-year-old daughter of Ann and Victor Touchet of Estherwood.

While maintaining a 2.8 GPA, Touchet has been recognized with the B Average Award and environmental science Faculty Award.

Her extracurricular activities include Beta Club membership and being a member of FFA for one year and FCCLA for two years.

As a member of the Girl Scouts, Touchet has volunteered her time with the Blind and Deaf Center and has served dinner to the less fortunate.

After graduation, she plans to attend LSU Eunice and pursue a degree in radiologic sciences.

The 2014 Basketball Sweetheart is Alysse Michelle Vondenstein, 17-year-old daughter of Elaine Vondenstein Spell and the late Alan Vondenstein Sr. of Egan.

As a student at Midland High, Vondenstein has maintained a 3.6 GPA and has been recognized with numerous awards, including the A Average Award for three years and B Average Award for one, the pre-algebra and French II Faculty Awards, District Literary Rally awards in introduction to BCA (first place), clothing and textiles (second place) and French II (first place) and was a State Literary Rally delegate for three years.

She was also a Louisiana Girls State representative and lettered in cheerleading for four years.

Aside from cheerleading, where she was a member of the squad for two years and served as manager for two more years, she has participated in several extracurricular activities.

These include, 4-H Club for four years, Beta Club for four years, Chess Club for one year and Student Council for one year.

Her community service activities include participation in the 4-H Club’s coat drive.

After graduation, Vondenstein plans to attend McNeese State University and major in elementary education.
