Outstanding Young Citizens named

Trio will be honored during Annual Banquet on May 4

The Crowley Chamber of Commerce has named three outstanding Young Citizens to be honored during the annual Chamber Banquet.
Addison Green of Crowley High School, Caleb King of Northside Christian School, and Sybil Lorraine Duncan of Notre Dame High School will be recognized at the May 4 event.
Green is the daughter of Thomas and Katie Green and is a senior at Crowley High School with a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average.
She has received many awards and honors, including “Student of the Month,” “Hardest Working Student” for four years, Woodman of the World Award and Daughters of the American Revolution Award.
Green was named 2016 CHS Student of the Year, as well as being voted CHS Lady. She holds many offices within organizations on campus including historian of Student Council, secretary of the National Honor Society as well as editor-in-chief of the Topper Staff.
Green is currently the Senior Class Representative and she has received a CHS Academic Jacket.
Along with her officer positions, she serves actively and is a part of many committees and programs. She is a part of the ACT 23+ Club; she serves on the Prom Committee and has been a part of the Acadia Parish CHOICES Program.
She was chosen to serve as president of the Leadership Team for the First United Methodist Church’s Youth Group. During her involvement there, she traveled with the group on two mission trips, conducting Bible studies for children in difficult homes.
She was also given the opportunity to raise homelessness awareness at Common Ground in Shreveport.
Green has also been an active volunteer with Crowley Christian Care and Ms. Helen’s Soup Kitchen.
She plans to attend Louisiana State University at Eunice to get her associate’s degree for elementary education, and then transfer to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette to complete her bachelor’s degree.
King is the son of Steven and Anne King and is a senior at Northside Christian with a 3.93 cumulative GPA.
King has many awards and honors, including second place in Fine Arts Survey in District Literary Rally, third place in Literary District Rally in geometry and the Coaches Award in varsity basketball.
He was chosen as Mr. Northside Christian for 2016 and was nominated and chosen for the National Beta Club Leadership Scholarship. He has been involved with many extracurricular activities while at Northside including, basketball for four years and baseball for three years.
King has served has vice president of Beta Club, Senior Class Representative and School Chapel Worship Team. He has led multiple community outreach activities through Northside Assembly of God as well as serving with the Children’s Church Small Group Leader.
He also spent two months in Germany on a mission trip.
After high school, King plans to attend a discipleship school (Youth with a Mission) for five months, and then attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Fall of 2017 to pursue a career in physical therapy.
Duncan is the daughter of Shea and Kathy Duncan and is a senior at Notre Dame High School of Acadia Parish with a 3.8571 cumulative GPA.
In addition to having been named to Notre Dame’s Principal’s List and Honor Roll, Duncan has earned a Taylor/Audubon Scholar Award, Academic All-State honors in track and field and the Ochsner STAR Award for all A’s. She has also received her Notre Dame Academic Sweater.
Duncan lettered in track and field and was named Catholic Schools Week Officer of Campus Ministry. She was selected from a large pool of applicants across the state to participate in the 2015 Ochsner of New Orleans STAR Program, which provides hands-on medical training for high school juniors and seniors looking to pursue a career in the medical field.
Along with her many awards and honors, Duncan manages to stay active at Notre Dame. She has been a member of the pep-squad, basketball, soccer, cross-country and track and field teams. She was also chosen to be the boys basketball team’s head trainer.
She is currently serving as chaplain of the Beta Club and secretary of Campus Ministry. She has been a member of the Speech and Drama Club, serving as secretary and members of both the hair and makeup committees for various Notre Dame theatrical productions.
Duncan is an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister. During March, she traveled on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic.
She is a member of the NDHS Interact Club and the Crowley Chapter of the Optimist Club. She has attended Senior Retreat and Beta Convention through Notre Dame.
Duncan has volunteered numerous hours with Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans, the International Rice Festival, German Fest, the Welcome House, the Notre Dame Tasting Bee, the Redemptorist Catholic Elementary Bazaar as well as Notre Dame’s Hearts for Haiti.
While keeping a busy schedule, she maintained employment with the Crowley Recreational Department as well as participating in the Catholic Student Exchange Program.
After graduation, Duncan has plans to move to Baton Rouge in the fall to attend Louisiana State University, majoring in biology with an emphasis in pre-medicine. After graduating from LSU, she plans to apply for medical school at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans or Louisiana State University in Shreveport, where she will pursue cardiothoracic surgery or anesthesiology.
From there, she wants to travel through “Doctors without Borders” to give care to those who need it most.
All are invited to join Chamber members at the Annual Banquet Wednesday, May 4, at the Grand Opera House where Green, King and Duncan will be honored as the 2016 Outstanding Young Citizens.
The Chamber will also recognize its board of directors, the Business Person of the Year, and Humanitarian of the Year.
Dinner will begin with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails at 6 p.m. with dinner service at 7 p.m.
During the cocktail hour, the crowd will have the opportunity to bid on items in a silent auction.
