Police seeking suspects in Rayne shootings

Two shootings in two days here

Rayne Police are investigating a pair of shootings that occurred in a span of about 36 hours.
The first occurred Sunday at the Burger King restaurant here and left one man in the hospital and another on the run from police.
At press time Wednesday, police were looking for the man they say shot into the victim’s vehicle in the parking lot at the restaurant at just after 1 p.m. Sunday.
According to Chief Carroll J. Stelly, officers responded to a call of shots fired at 1:01 p.m. When they arrived, officers discovered the victim had been transported to Acadia General Hospital in a personal vehicle.
Stelly said the victim is the same victim that was shot on May 8 on Holt Street.
According to the initial findings, a silver Toyota Range Rover or Land Rover (SUV) entered the Burger King parking lot and blocked a silver Ford Fusion in the drive-thru lane.
The driver of the SUV exited his vehicle and attempted to gain entry into the Fusion. Shots were fired and the victim was wounded in the stomach. The suspects left the scene heading north on Roberts Cove Road.
Rayne Police are trying to identify the shooter, who they describe as a young black male in his early 20s. The vehicle is described as a silver Toyota Range Rover or Land Rover with a large dent in the passenger rear door.
The second shooting occurred at about 1 a.m. Tuesday at 512 Holt Street.
Stelly said one man was shot and was transported to Acadia General Hospital in a personal vehicle.
The shooter in this incident is described as a black male, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall with shoulder-length dreads. He was last seen wearing a grey shirt.
Police did not say if the shootings are related.
Anyone with any information about these crimes is asked to call Rayne Police detectives at 334-4215 or Acadia Crime Stoppers at 789-(TIPS) / 789-8477.
Callers will remain anonymous and could receive up to a $1,000 cash reward.
