The short agenda for the February meeting of Arceneaux Post 77, American Legion, held Tuesday was breezed through as noted by Commander David Simon.
Commander Simon reminded everyone of Post 77 again hosting the 7th District Oratorical Contest on Feb. 7, 2016, at the local Legion Hme, while legionnaires were reminded of the 7th District Conference to be held at Post 1 in Lake Charles.
Ray Olinger reported 181 members were paid up placing the Post at 88% of their membership goal.
Sick call included the following legionnaires: Robert Comeaux, Willis Credeur and Randy Vidrine.
Commander Simon read a letter from the War Veterans Home in Jennings thanking Post 77 for donations and support given for the recent Christman Social and birthday party.
Ray Olinger discussed the Commander paying for the ice cream for the War Veterans Home birthday party. A collection was taken up to reimburse the Commander for his expenses.
As noted by Andrus Fontenot, there was discussion concerning obtaining grave markers for deceased veterans. Families of veterans who had been deceased for some time were trying to obtain markers for their deceased veterans. Information was given during the discussion and it was stated proof of service given at the funeral home would be enough info to obtain a marker.
The membership was advised of the upcoming musical events to be held at the Legion Home.
With no additional business, the meeting was adjourned, the Colors were retired, and a delicious meal was served by the Legion cooks.
