Post takes Northside helm

Pastor Ryan Post, who took over as lead pastor at Northside Christian Assembly of God Church on Jan. 1, readily acknowledges he has big shoes to fill. 

“Very big shoes,” he repeated back with a smile after being asked on Thursday. 

However, unlike most church transitions, the man he is replacing will be around to help him as he grows accustomed to the job. He and Pastor Loyd Singley have developed a very good relationship during Post’s 10 years of involvement with the church. It also helps that they are family. Post has been married to the Singley’s oldest daughter, Carrie, for nearly nine years. 

“She knew me from my days working at our youth camps during the summer,” said Pastor Post. “In fact, we were married a year to the day that I started working as a youth pastor here.”

The couple has two children. Carson, 6, is currently in the first grade at Northside Christian School. Their daughter Reagan, 4, is in pre-kindergarden.

Carrie is currently running the school’s preschool. 

When asked about what he’d like to accomplish during his tenure at Northside, Pastor Post, who looks much younger than most 32-year-olds, sounded like a veteran on the job. 

“I’d like to continue the growth that the Singleys began,” he stated. “When I talk about growth though, I’m talking about the spiritual growth of our church. If God gives us spiritual growth the numbers will come.” 

The mission of Northside Assembly of God is broken down into three words - discover, grow and serve. Pastor Post explained the mission to the Post-Signal during his interview. 

“We’d like people to discover Jesus, grow together in faith and serve our community and world,” he said. 

“Our church has been doing a service project every month,” said Pastor Post. “Recently, we’ve helped to get school supplies for 325 area students, helped to paint Ross Elementary’s cafeteria and participated in the city of Crowley’s clean up day.”

Pastor Post admits he is still getting used to sitting at the same desk that Pastor Singley sat at for so many years. However, he appears to be quite confident in his new position and his transition has seemingly been somewhat smooth. 

He credits this to his coworkers. 

The staff has been very supportive and helpful,” he said. “We are really excited here about moving forward together.” 

And then, of course, he knows he can always rely on his in-laws.

“This is a unique situation but it’s been very comfortable,” said Pastor Post. “I’m very thankful to the Singleys for the incredible work they have done here, for continuing to help us and being involved.”
