Those who have an opinion on the proposed construction of parking stalls where the median on East Hutchinson Avenue and the Court Circle presently stands will have their chance to voice it Wednesday.

The Crowley City Council has issued a notice announcing that a public hearing will be held at 5 p.m. on Nov. 5 at the City Council Chambers at 426 N. Avenue F.

An agreement between the Crowley City Council, the Acadia Parish Police Jury and Assessor Jimbo Petitjean’s office was annouced in August which would allow for the removal of the median on Hutchinson Avenue between the Court Circle and North Avenue G.

The area would be used to create parking stalls which the local and parish bodies said would help courthouse employees, who often have to park blocks away for their jobs, and also provide additional spaces for those visiting the downtown area.

Several citizens opposed to the removal of median have cited the historical significance of the median and the possibility that cars backing out from the area may hinder traffic.
