Rayne’s first Farmers Market opens Saturday at pavilion
“Come One, Come All!” That’s what the Rayne Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture, City of Rayne administration and over 20 vendors are exclaiming about the First Rayne Farmers Market this Saturday, October 10, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., under the Frog Festival Pavilion located on the Frog Festival grounds.
The public is invited, with no admission charge.
To celebrate this first community event, a grand opening ribbon cutting will be held at 7 a.m., with Rayne city officials, Rayne Chamber Board and volunteer Chamber members, and all the vendors.
A large variety of homemade and homegrown edible, non-edible and artisans (arts & crafts) products will be offered by the local and area vendors.
As of this date, product mix includes: a variety of handmade items such as fleece materials including, hats, scarves, blankets; unique wood designs, including crosses and sports teams and hand sewn projects; soaps, bath salts, body oils, body sprays; tote bags, purses, aprons; art with recycled items, healing oil blends, jewelry; pepper jellies, chow-chow, fresh country eggs; baby items, bonnets, dresses, bibs; pallet boards art signs, re-purposed and recycled furniture; teacups, chip and dip platters; wood carvings & wood crafts; sweets/jar mixes; children cloth story books; cookbook; holiday and sports wreaths; old fashioned fig preserves and jams, roasted pecans and caramel popcorn; a variety of crocheted items; more wreaths and furniture; origami ornaments, rosaries; pies, cakes, breads; grilled hamburgers and jambalaya; pickled beets, tarts, tea cakes; more variety of crocheted items; “party trash”; and much more! We are waiting to hear from a large produce vendor.
“We are very pleased at the response we’ve had so far, and are anticipating several last-minute vendors to sign up before the absolute deadline of Thursday, October 8 at 4 p.m. It looks like the Frog Festival Pavilion will be filled to capacity,” stated Fran Bihm, executive director of the Rayne Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture.
The Rayne Chamber board members and Chamber member volunteers will be offering water and soft drinks at a minimal charge.
“The City of Rayne administration and the Rayne Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture are co-sponsoring the Rayne Farmers Market as a “Community Event”, and judging by the wonderful response from the public and vendors, there is a strong possibility for future Farmers Markets in November and December. We’ll let you know!” stated Fran Bihm.
