Rayne Hosting 43rd Annual Frog Festival
The planning is complete! Invitations have been issued, and now it’s time for the 43rd Annual Rayne Frog Festival May 6-9!
The party begins at the Frog Festival Grounds and Pavilion on Wednesday evening when Mitchell Bros. & Sons opens the Carnival with the traditional Frog Festival Family Night at 5 p.m. No admission charges and wristband specials for the rides will be offered.
Thursday evening the gates open at 4:30 p.m., and the opening ceremony will officially mark the opening of the festival with a full schedule of events for a fun, safe, family event.
Admission is $5 for adults. Children 12 years and younger are free. Remember, no ice chests or pets are allowed. Exceptions are “special needs/handicap dogs” that are necessary for the welfare of their masters.
Schedule for the Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until midnight include musical entertainment by Cajun, Swamp Pop, and Country bands, Frog Racing and Jumping Contests for adults and children, a Poker Run, Jitterbug and Waltz Contest, Frog Derby Contest, Diaper Derby, local dance students performance, souvenirs, Arts and Crafts Show (and Sunday), plus a variety of food from food vendors. There will also be non-food vendors on the festival grounds. Of course, they’ll be of plenty of cold drink refreshments for adults and children.
Before the Grand Parade, a Parade Block Party will begin at 11am at Rayne City Hall. Dup’s DJ Service will provide music, while the Rotary Club of Rayne will sell barbeque hamburgers and cold drinks as part of the festival’s activities.
Highlighting the festival will be the biggest and grandest Grand Parade in the history of the Frog Festival. The parade starts at 1:30 p.m., rolling down North Adams Avenue and The Boulevard, and ending at the Frog Festival grounds. Over 80 units will participate, including floats, cars, tractors, marching bands, dance and twirling teams, Shiners’ Unit, state and parish political candidates, local kings and queens, visiting kings and queens, veterans, and western horseback riders.
Rayne native Andrus Fontenot will lead Saturday’s parade as 2015 Frog Festival Parade Grand Marshal, and Swamp People “Gator Queen Liz Choate and Team Liz” will be featured as “Honorary Grand Marshal”.
The Rayne Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture’s Frog Festival Committee guarantees a great time for everyone!
