Rayne Krewes Host Mardi Gras Celebration

Despite an early morning freeze and mid-day rain, the Krewe de Mardi Gras Creole and the Krewe of New Beginnings hosted the annual Mardi Gras celebration on Fat Tuesday, March 4, in Rayne.
Named grand marshal for this year’s parade was Ms. Betty Ann Cormier, but was unable to attend because of illness.
The Krewe de Mardi Gras Creole’s day began early on in the day with a visit to the Rayne Guest Home where they delivered king cakes and beads. They also visited a number of Rayne families who also received king cakes, along with beads and trinkets for the celebration as announced by Captain Brian Seth Mouton.
The Krewe of New Beginnings hosted the “Mardi Gras, A Celebration” parade and celebration Tuesday afternoon. The tradition of colorful and extravagant costumes is still live and well as many talented individuals designed their customs for the special day of celebration. They paraded their costumes and shared their talents with the community on Fat Tuesday.
Both krewes would like to thank the many volunteers who helped bring the tradition of Mardi Gras to the City of Rayne.
