Thirty years ago, Dr. Gordy Klatt started something that would become an international movement by starting the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.
This year, not only will the American Cancer Society celebrate its 30th Relay year, but it’s looking to rejuvenate the event across the globe.
As part of that effort, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Acadia Parish is inviting the public to attend a Meet and Greet event at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at El Paso Mexican Grill.
Past participants and honorees; survivors; local dignitaries; prospective team captains and/or Event Leadership Team members and anyone interested in helping finish the fight against all cancers should make plans to attend.
Not only will attendees learn about Relay For Life and what the American Cancer Society helps provide Acadia Parish residents who have been afflicted with the disease, but also learn plans for Relay For Life of Acadia Parish 2015.
“Cancer is everybody’s disease, it doesn’t discriminate,” said Darlene Thibodeaux, Relay For Life of Acadia Parish 2015 Executive Leadership Team people leader.
“Please help us in the fight against all types of cancer so no one ever has to hear those dreadful words, ‘You have cancer’.”
El Paso Mexican Grill is located at 165 Odd Fellows Road in Crowley.
