Several items approved by APSB

In its routine items, the Acadia Parish School Board approved several committee recommendations.
Members of the Budget and Finance Committee suggested the full board approve the hunting lease bid for the wooded portion of board-owned property located southeast of Eunice, as well as the Head Start Application for 2016-2017.
Meanwhile, the Personnel, Insurance and Curriculum Committee encouraged the board to adopt the new set of school and employee calendars for 2016-2017.
Teachers will report on Monday, Aug. 8, students on Wednesday, Aug. 10. School will remain in session through Thursday, May 25 with teachers’ last day being Friday, May 26.
All three measures were unanimously approved Monday night.
Finally, the board made three tax elections official by canvassing the March 5 election results and declaring them.
By unanimous vote each results were approved. They were done so in the following order – School Board District No. 6 Church Point, School Board District No. 7 Fifth Ward and School Board District No. 8 Iota-Egan.
The tax in Church Point was a proposed new tax of 10 mills for 10 years. It passed with 64 percent of the vote.
In the Fifth Ward, a maintenance tax of 13.45 mills for 10 years was renewed with 81 percent of the vote.
Finally, the Iota-Egan area’s tax of 10 mills for 10 years was also renewed with 70 percent of the vote.
