SLEMCO reports power outages, two schools closed in parish

Mire Elementary and Branch Elementary schools are both closed today (Jan. 7).

Branch was closed due to issues with the water and sewage lines running to the school.

Mire, however, was closed due to a downed power line that will not be fully repaired for about three hours.

If students are already at school, officials will tried to send them home on a bus. If a bus is not available, parents will be notified so they can pick their children up from school.

Meanwhile, SLEMCO, is reporting that 577 of its Acadia Parish customers (4.17 percent) are without power at this time. The number has decreased since earlier this morning. 

Cleco is reporting four of its customers being without electricity in the parish, while Entergy is reporting only one.
