Next time you go to a meeting of the Acadia Parish Police Jury, be sure to smile — you may be on camera.
A.J. “Jay” Credeur pushed through a measure Tuesday night will have meetings of the parish body recorded and posted on the police jury website.
“This is something I heard a lot during my campaign,” said Credeur in making the motion. “I think this jury needs to take advantage of the technology that’s available to us.
“I would like to see this jury video its meetings and post them the next day on the website (appj.org) so the people can see what their jurors are doing.
“I’m going to donate the camera.”
Only Alton “Al” Stevenson voted against the measure.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” he said.
Credeur, who has served three terms as a member of the police jury, was attending his last regular meeting after losing his re-election bid in the November runoff.
Dale Trahan, who seconded Credeur’s motion, also lost his re-election bid and will not return to the panel in January.
Trahan has served for one four-year term on the police jury.
Coincidentally, Stevenson has also served as a juror for 12 years and will not be returning in 2016.
In other business during the December meeting, a number of appointments to various parish boards received jury approval. Among those were:
• Irving Thibodeaux was reappointed to the Fire Protection District No. 5 board.
• Charles Broussard and Glen Hebert were reappointed to the Fire Protection District No. 11 board.
• Heather Harper and Albert Venable were reappointed to the Acadia Parish Communications District board of directors.
• Darren Clay was appointed to the Bayou des Cannes-Nezpique Gravity Drainage District board to fill the unexpired term of Glen Legros.
• Ralph Lacombe was reappointed to the Iota Fire Protection District board,
• Ronnie Richard and David Sonnier were re-appointed to the Fire Protection District No. 10 board.
