Thibodeaux elected Morse mayor; taxes considered

With 53 percent of the vote, Darlene Thibodeaux was chosen to fill the vacancy of Morse mayor.

Thibodeaux defeated the village's acting mayor Dale Louvierre (46 percent).

According to the Secretary of State's office, Morse saw a voter's turnout of 41.2 percent.

Tax renewals, new taxes earn split votes

 The Acadia Parish School Board sent three taxes to voters across the parish.

Under consideration were new taxes as well as renewals.

In the Fifth Ward School District No. 7, a maintenance tax renewal of a 13.45 mills was approved by voters for a period of 10 years. Voting yes was 71 percent, voting no, 29 percent. The area saw a dismal total turnout of 22.1 percent unofficially.

The same occurred concerning a 10 mills tax renewal in the Iota-Egan Oilfield Consolidated School District 8 with 70 percent voting yes for renewal. Voter turnout was also low in the district with 16.2 percent voting.`

Finally, a new tax in the Church Point School District No. 6 was also passed with 64 percent saying yes. Showing up to the polls in Church Point's school district was only 18.4 percent of registered voters.
